what does therapy look like?

Therapy is a working relationship, and one that begins with mutual respect and trust. I trust that you are the expert on you, your feelings, and your experiences in life. I affirm and support your gender, sexual orientation, relationship configurations, religious beliefs, and cultural background that are unique to you.

how therapy begins

I will work with you in our first 3-4 sessions to get to know you, and help in establishing goals. My goals are to listen and provide compassionate space for you to begin sharing what may be uncomfortable or difficult feelings. In these first weeks we can also determine if we are a good fit.

why fit is important

Many of my clients have had previous experiences in therapy, and come in ‘looking for the right fit.’ Having a good fit is important in therapy for being comfortable and establishing a trusting relationship.

If we are a good fit, that’s great! Otherwise I believe strongly in you finding who works best for you, and provide referrals.

how long is therapy?

My clients typically begin with me on a weekly schedule. Depending on life stressors, my clients will continue as weekly or biweekly. Some clients come monthly and others as needed. A typical length of therapeutic work with me is from six to 18 months. When I have a good therapeutic relationship with a client, I am ‘on retainer’ for you to come back when you need to check in and get a booster session.
